I didn't even know you could stream Twitter to Linked In, so that was a revelation to me! I do think Kelly makes an excellent point about overload, however, and like the suggestion of selective posting. I think we're all a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information coming at us these days, and I, for one, would <strong> not <strong> appreciate having all my Linked In contacts' Twitter posts coming at me as well. Just my thoughts. ;)

I suggest that more people should follow the advice Kelly provides here. LinkedIn can be a VERY powerful tool if used properly.

Thanks for the comments Diane and Sam! You guys actually bring up a good point, I don't think it's an all or never rule.

Diane, for example I know you often only post professional oriented updates to Twitter and it doesn't bother me that those stream to your LinkedIn (truthfully I catch them more on LinkedIn than Twitter because I follow so many people). However, what gets me is when people are posting updates to Twitter like "I'm waiting for a bus!" or "I got soooo drunk last night!" or even Foursquare check-ins at the grocery store which I can accept on Twitter but I find is just polluting my LinkedIn stream where I go to read professional oriented updates. That's why I think the best solution is selectively posting to LinkedIn using the #li hashtag...

Sam--Likewise for Facebook, if you don't post to Twitter very often, then it hardly bothers me, It's more the 20 tweets a day being streamed to Facebook and clogging up my news feed that really gets me.

I'm a huge fan of LinkedIn so I really appreciated this post. The only thing I disagree with is that I actually think streaming Twitter into LinkedIn is a good thing. I agree selective tweets for Facebook should be done because Facebook is used differently and people REALLY get annoyed with too many posts. The reason why I think it's a good thing on LinkedIn though is exactly the reason that Samantha mentions that many of my professional contacts are not on Twitter. I am a firm believer that showing the whole person (personal and professional) on a network like LinkedIn adds to your credibility.

This is a great post I can resonate well with. Written in plain and proactive language. Question: I currently stream my Twitter feed to my Facebook and LinkedIn accounts because 80 per cent of my friends aren't on Twitter and I feel a lot of my professional contacts are not either. I thought it was a great way to push my conversations to multiple levels, but I can see how it can just be a nuisance of repetition.
Should I stop streaming all together or just pick one stream over the other? I'm hoping you'll the suggest the easiest solution ;)

Thanks Kelly!
